Folk Club founder will be remembered with tribute gig

-

The founder of Girvan Folk Club is to be remembered at a weekend gig.

Sunday’s event at the Queen’s Hotel, Girvan, will pay tribute to Bobby Robb, who died in 2012 aged 83.

Bobby was one of the leading lights in Girvan’s folk scene and is fondly remembered by a whole generation of performers for his kind words of encouragement and his enthusiasm for the local music scene.

Bobby’s tireless work with Girvan’s folk club helped to put it on the map and attract popular performers at a time when every town in Scotland could boast a successful folk club.

The evening will honour Bobby with a live performance and documentary tribute to the man who inspired and encouraged him.

A spokesman said: “This will be an unforgettable commemoration of Bobby Robb, who introduced a musical community and inspired all within it.”

The event is being organised by honours year commercial music student JP Gourlay.

Anyone who would like to go along to listen and/ or perform should call JP on 0771 591 0882. Call JP to book tickets at £ 5 each.

Anyone wanting to share their memories of Bobby and his time running the Folk Club for the documentary, can email JP at B00253882@ studentmail. uws. ac. uk
