Record breakers
Two Girvan based athletes, both at different ends of the age spectrum, are record breakers.
Andrew Murphy, 22, broke a native record that has stood almost as long as he has lived.
Competing at the Scottish Athletics senior men’s combined events championships at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, Andrew got off to a flier on day one.
His events: 60m ( 7.32 secs, PB), long jump ( 6.85m PB), shot putt ( 12.39m) and high jump ( 1.93m.)
On day two, he posted 60m hurdles ( 8.40 secs PB), pole vault ( 4.77m) and 1000m ( 2: 50.77) for an overall 5402 points which beat the Scottish native record of 5286 which stood for more than 20 years.
Andrew was second overall to Ben Gregory, a Welsh Commonwealth Games athlete, who also set a new Welsh record.
Meanwhile, on the Masters scene, Team GB athlete Kerry- Liam Wilson was in form at the British Masters Indoor Championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London. He won gold in the M45 age group for the 3000m in 9.10: 53 for a Scottish and British indoor 3000m double.
