Hope on menu at new church project

Weekly sessions open door to Ayr community

- Sarah Hilley

Hope is just around the corner, thanks to a new church project.

Ayr Free Church are inviting people in for tea, coffee, toast and good company.

The new Thursday morning event has been dubbed Hope Corner with the aim of creating a cheerful meeting place to chase away the blues.

Jigsaws, dominoes and board games are also available.

Ayr Free Church member Irene Howat said: “There is company for anyone who would like a chat and it is somewhere warm to relax on a cold morning.

“It is an open door for the community around the church. Communities have so many closed doors. Everyone is welcome. The idea came from the congregation.

“Hope Corner has been running for 10 weeks now and is going very well. There is a buzz about it.”

Explaining why the event was called Hope Corner, Irene said: “Christians are exemplified by hope. That is what we are about.”

She said any Thursday is good for a visit but the week leading up to Easter would be an extra special time to call in.

Hope Corner is open from 10 am until noon every Thursday.

The church has also launched the Little Ark afternoon toddler group.

It takes place every Thursday from 1pm to 2.30pm for tots under school age and costs £ 1.

There are plenty of toys to entertain the kids and snacks available.

Ayr Free Church is diagonally opposite TK Maxx and the hall is behind the church.
