-

Karate Success: Belmont Academy pupil Aidan Moore has had further success in karate. This is great news for Aidan who has recently recovered from a number of injuries. Aidan recently travelled to London as part of the Scottish team competing in the B. A. S. K International Competition. The team won Silver in the Team Kumite event. Well done to Aidan and the rest of the Scottish team.

Swimming Success: A number of Belmont pupils have recently enjoyed huge successes in the swimming pool. Elle McCreadie and Cameron Thompson were both very successful as part of the South Ayrshire Disability Team. Cameron won 2 gold medals for back stroke and breast stroke as well as a silver medal for front crawl. Elle also won 2 gold medals for breast stroke and front crawl as well as a bronze medal for breast stroke.

A number of Belmont pupils were also very successful in the recent Scottish Nationals for swimming. Sophie Cameron ( S4) competed in the 100m and 200m back stroke and achieved 7th place in both events. Caitlin Duffy ( S5) competed in the 100m and 200m back stroke for the 17+ age group and won a gold medal for both events. Beth Gordon ( S4) competed in the 100m and 200m butterfly. Matthew Gordon ( S2) also competed in the 100m and 200m butterfly for his age category winning a silver medal for the 100m event and coming 4th in the 200m event. These results reflect a great deal of hard work and commitment from all swimmers who train 16 – 19 hours each week getting up at 5am several mornings and also training in the evenings. Gymnastics Success: Belmont Academy pupil Anna Hollins continues to be very successful in gymnastics. Anna recently had a great competition competing in the Scottish Gymnastics Championships. She finished an excellent fourth place over all in the Espoir competition.

In the all round competition she finished in 1st place on bars and floor and 2nd on vault which put her into the apparatus finals.

On finals day she came 1st on bars making her the Scottish Espoir Bars Champion. She also took 4th place on floor and finished 4th on vault.

Overall she had a very successful weekend and will now compete in the English Championships as a guest in April.

Careers Day: All S2 pupils are Belmont Academy were given the opportunity recently to attend a Careers day at the Ayrshire College. This was organised to allow pupils the chance to meet with and speak to representatives from a variety of different careers. There were speakers there from a number of different backgrounds including the Health Sector, the Beauty sector, voluntary agencies, Law, the Police and Engineering. Pupils were also given the opportunity to ask questions and find out about the different career paths that might be available to them. The day was very successful and Belmont Academy would like to say a big thank you to all the speakers who gave up their time to give the pupils an insight into their careers.
