They now represent Scotland in the British Isles pairs at Paisley next year.

Daughter Mandy made it a winning family double at Stirling when she took first female place in the shorter Sprint Duathlon while Lorna Sloan made it a club triple success taking e silver in the national super vets Duathlon championship. Karl Owens and Scott Russell were strongly placed in the top third.

Meanwhile, 20 members took part in the club’s spring training weekend near Peebles.

Many of the enthusiasts managed to cram in three cycle runs – including an ascent of the notorious Talla Reservoir climb which boasts a 20% slope, two swim sessions of over 6k and the diehards even slipped in a run session.

The previous weekend, three members took part in the Clumber Park Duathlon, one of England’s major spring events with over 2000 participants at Nottingham.

Mandy Stewart was fifth senior woman with Lyndsey Blair and Emma Luann well placed in their categories.

Competitors in the Ayr Three Castles Duathlon on April 23 will find that run sections from Doonfoot Primary up past Greenan Castle, have become more comfortable, with the hard surfacing of the extension of the Sustrans bike path from Dunure Road to the coast.

This is particularly good news for the organisers, as they are about to accommodate for the first time, a visually impaired athlete who runs tethered to a guide, and who completes the bike section on a ‘ piloted’ tandem.

The race is filling up. Entries via Entry Central.
