OAP scoots off in wrong buggy from the chippy

-

An old man has fled a fish and chip shop with someone else’s mobility buggy.

The bizarre incident happened right outside the busy Blue Lagoon on Ayr High Street.

Two buggies were parked outside the chippie at the same time.

And the first man out jumped into the wrong machine.

At around 1pm on Saturday, March 25 a 74- year- old man left his black and silver Prism scooter to the left of the front door.

At 1.50pm another man parked his blue Pride Colt scooter on the right side of the door outside the restaurant, collected a takeaway order - and left on the wrong scooter, making his way down Ayr High Street.

The 74- year- old noticied his own scooter was gone, with only the blue mobility aid left and he contacted police.

Officers uplifted the blue scooter, which is now in Ayr Police Station.

Police understand the man who took the wrong scooter is aged between 70 and 80, wearing a cream jacket, cream hat peak cap, dark trousers and dark shoes.

Constable Andrew Thorne from Ayr Police Office said: “There is no suggestion of criminality. We believe that this was an honest mistake.

“The consequence of this mix- up is that a 74 year- old man is having to make other arrangements to get around without his mobility aid.

“We have no option but to hold the other scooter in case the owner realises the error and comes forward to police.”
