Take time to get in touch with yourself

-

Modern living has a lot to answer for.

And while our lives move at a fast pace all too often, we have a lot to balance everyday.

But how often do the pressures o of our modern lives get too much?

At this time of year, planning holidays, work and school schedules and other family a activities can be a lot to cope with.

So it is important to take some t time out and give yourself a health MOT and try to cope with the stress of everyday living.

One thing to consider is the p practice of Mindfulness.

Mindfulness offers people an a alternative, and more conducive, way of getting through the day and all we need to do is learn how.

With its origins in Buddhism, t the enlightened have been p practising this for many years.

It involves changing the way you think, concentrating on the here and now, rather than delving constantly into our past, or possible futures, for answers or m meaning in physical, or spiritual matters.

It makes us more aware of our own thoughts, and feelings, and helps us filter out negative input from other sources.

It embraces mind and body, and provides us with balance in an often misrepresented world.

Now that’s basically a layman approach, I’m no expert. But as far as I can tell Mindfulness helps us stay focused on what we are experiencing in the now, and leaving everything else we can’t control, well enough alone.

So if we can take that as a starting point, we should now look at what it can actually help.

One of the most important factors in the process, is learning how to cope with our own minds and feelings.

Mindfulness has been found to help us feel less stressed and more caring. Practitioners will find themselves calmer, more in charge of their feelings, and that can only benefit us all.

It has also been linked with more physical aspects of life, such as dealing with pain and illness.

Probably most importantly, Mindfulness helps you go a little easier on yourself. With the fast pace mixture of work, life, relationships and family, we can often start to blame ourselves for things that don’t turn out the way we want them to.

Mindfulness shows us a better way of thinking when faced with stressful situations – situations that we often internally blame ourselves for.

Now if any of this is ringing true for you, it may be time to do a little research into the subject or, even better, find a group that can help you get started.

Many classes run small blocks of four or six weeks that can introduce you to Mindfulness and point you in the right direction.

Often when we learn in a group, we feel more comfortable, and it’s easier to do.

If there’s nothing on nearby, there are plenty of resources online that can you can check out.

Give it a go. It may or not be for you, but at least while you research it you will have taken a little time out of your day to focus on yourself.
