Girvan boss sets points target for promotion

-

Peter Leonard reckons Girvan will need 12 points from their final five games to clinch promotion to the top flight for the first time ever.

But the Hamilton Park boss says the whole club is up for the challenge.

Girvan head to Maryhill on Wednesday and host Shotts on Saturday before closing against Yoker ( away), Maryhill ( home) and Renfrew ( home).

Leonard said: “Girvan have never been in the Premier Division and I have never managed there before but that’s the target.

“All the games are very close with only one goal of a difference in many of them. We’ve a small squad and losing Michael Reilly with a broken wrist is a huge blow.

“The season could come down to one mistake or one break of the ball. I reckon we need 49 points.”

On- loan Ayr United kid Jamie Ballantine fired Girvan ahead against Clydebank but goals from Alan Frizell and Jamie Darroch turned the tide.
