Helen’s century of life

-

A wonderful old lady celebrated her 100th birthday with her loved ones at her side.

And among Helen Armstrong’s birthday cards was one of special congratulations from The Queen.

Helen was born at Kilgrammie, near Dailly, on May 16, 1917 when the First World War was still raging.

She has been a resident of Fairknowe House Care Home in Maybole for the past eight years.

And Helen’s family thanked Fairknowe staff for making her birthday so special.

After leaving school, Helen became a housekeeper for Dailly GP Dr MacInroy.

And she was a later a barmaid in the village’s Greenhead Hotel.

Helen loved to spend time in her garden, enjoyed baking for her family, and relished trips to Manchester to visit family and friends.

She was also fond of a game of bingo, was a mean badminton player in her youth, and a keen member of the church Woman’s Guild.
