Trump Turnberry Exclusive Neill’s got the golden keys to the door

- Stuart Wilson

If it needs sorting at Turnberry, Neill Grierson is invariably the man with a plan.

As senior concierge, the welcoming face of the Trumpowned resort has dealt with most guest requests – from fast cars to whisky tours.

Now, a place among the globe’s elite has been bestowed upon ‘ The Keys’ of the operation.

Neill, of Kirkoswald, has taken rank among the society of “Clefs d’Or” ( French for golden keys) – the world’s very best concierge staff.

To serve is their passion – with Neill among a unique network of talent rated the cream of their crop.

All members wear a set of golden keys on their collar, making them instantly identifiable to guests in the know.

Neill, 48, said: “You’d be surprised how many people walk through the doors and immediately clock my keys.

“The very top hotels around the world will all expect to have a Keys on their staff, so it a standard as much as anything else.

“I joke that I can deliver anything from a Mars Bar to a helicopter – but in essence I’m here to go above and beyond.

“If someone wants a chauffer driven Rolls, for example, I can tap into a network of contacts and have one here.

“The benefits of being in this network have advantages for both the guests and myself.”

Neill, who organises tailored trips for guests staying at Turnberry, has been a trusted staff member for 11 years.

He became the hotel’s first doorman in 40 years after moving up from the resort’s Adventure Centre and has since moved to the top concierge job.

He added: “As part of my application to join the society, I had to prove my knowledge both of the hotel and the local area.

“It is a rigorous process and you have to prove your worth to gain access.

“We have a lot of guests who are staying here but also want to explore Ayrshire.

“I enjoy doing things like sending them to the Electric Brae – the Americans, in particular, love that.”
