Starlight walkers brighten the night

Hardy souls brave charity midnight trek

- Michael Reynolds

More than 800 walkers brightened up the streets of Ayr on Saturday for the annual Ayrshire Hospice Land o’Burns Starlight Walk.

And those hardy souls taking on either the four, nine or 13- mile route had kind weather as they walked.

After pre- walk entertainment from top DJ Colin McArdle, Maybole Pipeband sent the entrants on their way.

And along the route they were supported by groups including the Blue Knights motorcycle group, Domino’s Pizza, Stobbs the Baker, and musicians Orthodox.

Tracey Corrigan, assistant fundraising manager at the Hospice, said: “A huge thankyou to all our fabulous walkers, you were amazing. Thanks also to our huge team of volunteers who we simply could not stage this event without.”

The total amount raised on the night is still being counted, with Hospice staff taking receipt of the money on Monday morning.
