KCP proves fluid idea is patently in line for top

-

A leading waste management firm has been granted a British Patent for its unique fluid transfer system.

Cumnock firm KCP Environmental Ltd has received the exclusive rights to the technology for a period of 20 years.

The new fluid transport system was originally developed by KCP to solve a problem for a client and has since been used on a number of occasions on other contracts.

KCP’s managing director, Wendy Pring, said: “We are delighted to have been granted the patent for our fluid transfer system.

“At KCP we take pride in our blue sky thinking and our determination to find the very best solution for each client’s needs and this patent vindicates that ethos of innovation.”

The system was initially developed to allow removal of heavy compacted silts at vertical depths of around 7580m, with a liquid head of 60m above the basal silt deposits.

As the liquid level was part of a historic hydraulic containment system this water level could not be removed either environmentally or cost effectively to allow access to the silt.

Wendy added: “In addition, the downtime of managing larger volumes of water/ silty water would also have added significant costs to the project.

“We have since adapted and improved this fluid transfer system to allow for emulsification of material and can work with both compressed air and liquid depending upon the applications.

“We are reviewing some further research and development opportunities that will allow us to understand the limitations to the dimensions and further material specific applications.

“If anyone is interested or finding out more or has an application they believe this could work on please send us some details and we will be in touch.”

KCP Ltd was founded by Wendy and her husband Karl and has become an industry leader in its own field of waste management.
