Morrison makes his winning run for Ayr

Last over drama as Cambusdoon men beat Poloc

Ayr Cricket Club Mark Morrison hit the winning run in the last over as Ayr beat Poloc with a well- timed run chase at Cambusdoon.

The visitors posted a challengin­g total of 267- 7 with useful contributi­ons from South African pro Snyman ( 89), Geldenhuys ( 41), Shah ( 31), Young ( 30) and Ahmad ( 30 no).

Scott McElnea was pick of Ayr’s bowlers taking 3- 46.

Ayr openers Smith and Papps put on 99 for the first wicket, when Smith fell for 51. Skipper Andi McElnea then joined Papps and they continued to push on until Papps fell five short of another century with the total on 191 and only nine overs remaining.

Poloc were in the ascendency but when McElnea and Khan put on 20 runs, the balance swung back towards Ayr, only for both to depart in quick succession for 61 and 26.

They were followed by Scott McElnea after a quick cameo, leaving Mark Morrison and Matthew McClymont at the crease with only six required off the last over.

McClymont drove the first ball for four and took a single of the second to tie the scores before Morrison cut the next ball to the cover boundary to secure the victory. POLOC ( 7) AYR ( 25) out, Richie Borland top scoring with 22.

Shawholm reached their target with almost 15 overs to spare for the loss of three wickets.

Leg spinner Harry Boyd took all the wickets for 47 runs

The Developmen­t XI got their Western Union Cup campaign back on track at home to Torrance House.

The visitors scored 125- 4 off 20 overs, a total Ayr chased down in 16 overs, Callum Henderson top scoring with 63.

Fixtures: Ayr are away to Greenock on Saturday in the league while on Sunday they are at home in the Scottish Cup to Meigle who shocked Uddingston in the previous round.

Tonight ( Thursday), they entertain Clydesdale in the Rowan Cup ( sponsor Clancy Consulting).

The Cambusdoon XI host Langloan on Saturday while the Developmen­t XI face Ferguslie in the Evening League on Tuesday.
