- Mike Wilson

Michael Moffat wants to hit the 100- goal mark in quick time after joining Ayr for a second time.

And the former Somerset Park goal king could be joined by another returning old boy, Andy Geggan, who is tipped to follow him from Dunfermline.

Michael Rose and Alan Forrest have penned new deals to follow new signing Chris Higgins from Queen of the South.

Moff, 32, has agreed a twoyear deal from June 10 and will also resume his community coaching duties that he embraced in his first stint.

Moff revealed: “I am only five goals off a century of senior goals, so want to hit that target as quickly as possible.

“I scored 68 goals in two and a half seasons here before so I want to get that tally moving as well.

“Going full- time is a big statement from Ayr. We’ll be one of the favourites to win League One but it will be a tough league with Raith and Airdrie full- time as well.”

Boss Ian McCall added: “Moff ’ s movement and finishing ability will help players like Alan Forrest, Craig McGuffie and Declan McDaid.

“He looks in great shape and hopefully he will help us win promotion.

“It will be an exciting partnership if I can team him up with Craig Moore, who was so unlucky with injury. I believe if Moore played 36 games he would be good for 20 goals.”

Moff spent six seasons with Girvan before first signing for Ayr in January, 2011.

Hi s p ro l i f i c s c o r i n g record won him a move to Dunfermline, where he had spent the last three seasons.

He quipped: “It never felt like I was away. Dunfermline seemed to play Ayr about 20 times in league and cups, so it’s nice to be back.”

McCall is this week in talks with Ross Docherty, Daryll Meggat t , Jamie Adams, McGuffie and Moore but admitted freeing Mick Wardrope was a tough call. SEE PAGE 95

New signing Higgins, 31, is a fitness coach as well as a robust defender.

The former Palmerston skipper said: “The main reason I am here is as a player. However, I am also going to be working with some of the younger players on fitness and nutrition.

“In this day and age, that side of the game is absolutely crucial and it’s imperative players look after themselves.”

Higgins started his career with Motherwell and played for Clyde and Dunfermline before joining Queens in 2011.
