Hockey stick smash terror

-

A thug smashed through his estranged partner’s window with an ice hockey stick after she finally ended it with him.

Jamie Keir, 27, had been in a long- term relationship and had a two- year- old daughter with his ex – after they broke up, they remained cordial for the sake of their child.

Depute fiscal Scott Toal said: “At 9pm the day before they arranged to meet he appeared to be outside. While there he was asked to give back his key and leave. He did this willingly.”

But the next day, his terrified ex- partner was home alone at her address in Ayr’s Craigie Way when Keir appeared at her back door. He appeared to be drunk, and banged on the window demaning to be let in.

Mr Toal said: “She became aware that the kitchen window was smashed and she fled to a neighbours.

“Police arrived and noted the broken window, and an ice hockey stick lying nearby.”

The court heard how Keir, of Pine House, Prestwick, has since paid for the window to be replaced from his own pocket following the outburst.

Keir admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and wi l f u l l y damaging property on September 18 last year.

His defence agent, Iain Gillies, said: “The relationship is well and truly over. She doesn’t want to see Mr Keir, and he finally accepts that.”

Social workers said Keir was suitable for the Caledonian rehabilitation programme, but Sheriff John Montgomery said he was “not a great fan” of the scheme.

He sentenced Keir to 180 hours of unpaid work and a community payback order with 12 months of supervision.

He will also attend an alcohol treatment plan.
