Food glorious food at top outdoor festival
Ballantrae’s award- winning Festival of Food and Drink is back for a third successive year this Sunday, and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.
Locally sourced seafood, meats, cheeses, cakes, cider, wine, whisky and more are available for sampling and buying, appealing to the growing interest in local delicacies, slow food and wild produce.
Attendees can look forward to cookery demonstrations peformed by some of the country’s foremost chefs and food producers.
Participation is not restricted to viewing, however, with visiters free to enjoy mouthwatering dishes while overlooking picturesque Ailsa Craig.
There should be something suited to everyone’s taste, with foraging expeditions on offer for anyone feeling a little more adventurous and entertainment for younger visitors provided by ‘ Talk of the Town.’
History buffs, meanwhile, will be given the opportunity to visit the Ballantrae Biosphere, which provides a fascinating insight Scottish culinary history.
With two years of success under her belt, festival organiser Siobhan Liddington is predicting more of the same: “There’s a real buzz about this event. Following the success of our previous two Festivals and our Farmers’ Markets Ballantrae is now well and truly on the food map.”
Importantly, Liddington believes the festival will also “play its part in helping to deliver national and local tourism and food strategies as well as generating an income for suppliers and local businesses.”
Held in the grand marquee complex at Ballantrae harbour and craigiemains home and garden gentre, the festival is bound to be a success no matter the weather.
Proceedings kick off at 11am and finish at 5pm. Entry is £ 2 and a free bus service is to be provided between the festival, Stranraer and Girvan from 10.30am onwards.
