The tragic events of the last few weeks have surely touched everyone in the UK.

Maybe you knew someone who was at the Ariana Grande gig at the Manchester Arena.

Or perhaps, like me, you’ve walked south over London Bridge area one Sunday morning in search of a ‘ breakfast of champions’ after a slightly heavy night.

Seeing these familiar places coming under attack on the rolling news channels is uncomfortable at best; the panic on peoples’ faces, authorities brandishing arms storming a pub full of drinkers in search of these attackers, poor children looking bewildered about what’s going on.

But there couldn’t have been a bigger transformation from the scenes on Saturday night and Sunday morning, to those we were able to see on TV on Sunday evening at the wonderful concert.

What Ariana Grande and her team put on at Old Trafford Cricket Ground was nothing short of amazing. And after the tension of the previous night in London it was fantastic to see so many people able to let their shoulders drop just a little, smile, and enjoy themselves thanks to these wonderful performers.

From the first note of Marcus Mumford’s first song, to the last note from Ariana herself, everyone on stage was there for one common purpose – to bring people together through their music and what it means to people.

Even Liam Gallagher, who I thoroughly expected to do something daft, kept to the script and was in fantastic voice. The only thing that was missing – and this in the grand scheme of things is so minor as not to matter at all – was Liam and his brother Noel putting their differences aside for the long- rumoured Oasis reunion.

But for me, the standout moment of the night was the dancing policeman – it really did bring a tear to my eye.

Good on everyone who took part, we really needed to see that joy and happiness.

And huge respect to Ariana… an inspiration to us all.
