‘ I wouldn’t change a thing’ says ousted MP

-

Ousted Corri Wilson claimed she “wouldn’t change a thing” about her failed campaign – despite blowing an 11,265 majority.

The defeated MP blamed a chaotic political landscape for leaving her Westminster career in ruins.

It comes just two years after the coronation which sent her to the capital.

But a Tory swing of 17.3 per per cent – one of the biggest seen across the UK – has left Ms Wilson on the scrapheap.

She said: “I’m evidently disappointed. The last two years has been a privilege serving the people of Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.

“But we’re witnessing something in politics at the moment that I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.

“It is a moving feast and there is so much in the mix when it comes to what people want to vote for.

“You have Brexit and so many other factors at play, so it’s literally changing from one minute to the next.”

And she insisted: “I wouldn’t change a thing about my campaign.

“We only had a small amount of time to get out there but I had many activisits working night after night.

“I owe them a huge thanks for all that they did.”

Wilson, 52, was back on the campaign trail under the SNP’s favoured haunt at Ayr’s Wallace Tower just 24 hours after her defeat.

Posting a picture on Twitter with fellow activists, she wrote: “Back on the High Street today. # SNP # WeAreNotGoingAway # NotIfButWhen.”

But one senior SNP source within the Ayr setup claimed “tough questions” would have to be asked following the defeat.

They said: “A lot of the damage was self inflicted.

“And Edinburgh only realised we were in trouble when it was far too late.

“There was an air of arrogance that we couldn’t lose the seat all because of what we did two years ago.

“But if we learn lessons from this there’s no reason why we can’t come again.”
