Shujja returns his best ever as Ayr keep up the heat

Shujja Khan claimed career best figures of 6- 34 as Ayr beat Dumfries by nine wickets to go second in the league.

Scott McElnea took 3- 51 as the hosts were dismissed for 215.

Openers Neil Smith ( 92) and Michael Papps ( 97 no) then put on 200 for the first wicket as Ayr raced to victory with 12 overs to spare.

In midweek, Ayr beat Uddingston away to reach the semi- final of the McCulloch Cup. Accurate bowling restricted the hosts to 103- 5 before Papps ( 57 not out) steered Ayr to a home tie against Ferguslie next month.

The Cambusdoon XI beat Nunholm by 66 runs. Posting 248- 9 with Ross Mitchell ( 52) and Richard Borland ( 46), they bowled the visitors out for 182 with Harry Boyd taking 3- 45 and two wickets each for Richard Borland and Pushkar Bhandari.

The Developmen­t XI lost their last section game of the Western Cup at home to Kilmarnock.

They scored 121- 7, Ross Mitchell top scoring with 43 not out and 37 from Callum Henderson, a total which Kilmarnock reached of the first ball of the last over. Jacob Whittle took 3- 18.

On Sunday, they lost by five wickets at home to Kelburne. After being bowled for 139 with Johnny Baines ( 37) and Richard Borland ( 28) the only batsmen to make any real contributi­on, the visitors reached their target with eight overs to spare. Baines took 3- 8 and Lloyd Jefferson 2- 20.

On Saturday, Ayr head to Ferguslie while the Cambusdoon XI host Meiklerigg­s.
