Mum caused A& E chaos after cocktail of drugs

- Michael Reynolds

A mum- of- two high on a cocktail of drugs caused chaos at A& E – and doesn’t remember a thing.

Tahni Gray, 37, appeared in the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court charged with placing staff at Ayr Hospital in a state of fear and alarm with her antics.

And she admitted the charge – despite her lawyer confessing the wayward woman had no recollection of events after taking both amphetamines and cannabis.

Police first found her passed out on the street in Girvan town centre shortly before 8am on February 2, after a concerned member of the public raised the alarm.

Depute fiscal Stephen McLean said: “At 9.18am police officers received a call regarding a woman causing a disturbance at Ayr Hospital.

“She was found in a resuscitation room and was being restrained by hospital staff and officers needed to assist.

“The accused became very aggressive, shouting and swearing at the officers calling them ‘ f*** ing w**** s and f*** ing prostitutes.’”

Gray continued to struggle with officers and staff, and was only calmed down when her sister arrived at the hospital.

Mr McLean told the court that it was believed this behaviour was “out of character” for her.

Her defence agent John Gallagher said Gray had been “candid and forthright” about her drug issues with social workers.

He added: “Since this offence she is attempting to try and put matters right as best she can.

“There has been genuine contrition and shame expressed.”

Sheriff Carole Cunninghame said: “Not only did she cause all this very significant mayhem in a place where people are trying to assist, she also put herself in a very vulnerable position. “It’s very concerning.” The Sheriff told Gray that she noted her apologies over the incident, and spared her a prison sentence which she “might have expected” given the circumstances.

Instead, she was handed a Community Payback Order with 12 months supervision, and 120 hours of unpaid work in the community to be carried out within six months.
