Biffy are kings of the festivals

Hot gossip from the local music scene

-

I’ve just had an incredible weekend at the very first TRNSMT Festival on Glasgow Green.

The three- day event featured headliners Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro and what an incredible event it was.

From start to finish I was hugely impressed; the layout of the arena and facilities impressed and and the festival goers were extremely friendly.

TRNSMT attracted 120,000 people over the three days and has to go down as a resounding success for a brand new festival.

It has to be said the moment of the weekend was, by a long shot, our own Biffy Clyro.

Headlining the first ever TRNSMT, Biffy were majestic and owned it.

Opening with Wolves of Winter and blasting through classics like ‘ 57’ , Biffy made it clear from the start they were here to give us a show to remember and I spoke to many fans who said it was one of their very best.

The opening to ‘ Different People’ sent shivers down my spine before blasting into the raucous guitar parts and sending the crowd into a frenzy.

‘ Biblical’ and ‘ Bubbles’ were fantastic and ‘ Mountains’ went down a storm. ‘ Black Chandelier’ was mighty and it was a treat to hear ‘ All The Way Down’, unexpected and real favourite of mine from The Vertigo of Bliss.

Having watched the 1975 just previous to Biffy Clyro the comparison was absolute in terms of a band who can really blow people away by the sheer energy of their music and performance versus posturing and pulling affected poses for the camera.

Yes two very different bands but Biffy are a band who really give it everything and you can feel it, it would be impossible not to.

I once heard a somewhat green eyed musician ask “What have Biffy Clyro ever done for us?” as if they had some sort of inferred responsibility to drag forward the career of every other Scottish band.

My response, “Doing what they do so fantastically well, showing that immense passion, hard work ( lots of finely honed talent) and dedication will get you places.”

To me that’s all the inspiration I’ll need and I’m hugely grateful for it. It continues to be the most incredible journey with Biffy, they have been and continue to be a band I trust and believe in. In Biffy We Trust.

It must be said that another Ayrshire band who blew the roof off at TRNSMT were none other than Vukovi. Taking to the King Tut’s Stage on Sunday, Vukovi showed why they are one of the most exciting new bands in Scotland with a performance that was on fire.

In front- gal Janine Shilstone we have a genuinely brilliant and charismatic new music star fronting a band who are an absolute powerhouse live.

It’s fantastic to see this brilliant Scottish band making headway and headlines over the UK. Vukovi’s self- titled debut album is out now. You can catch Vukovi’s as well as Biffy Clyro’s performances from TRNSMT on BBC iPlayer.

A fantastic weekend that was impressive on so many fronts, I would like to see moreAyrshire talent gracing TRNSMT next year and urge you all to keep on doing what you do. Go for it and raise the roof. Believe in yourself, @ LittleFire
