Apres golf fun will keep party going

-

It isn’t just golf fans who are in for a treat when the Scottish Open comes to Ayrshire this week.

Because events firm Zisys have planned a fantastic slate of entertainment at Irvine Harbourside during the tournament.

Saturday sees a packed calendar with musicians, street entertainers, coastwatch activities and more.

It all kicks off at 4pm as Irvine Beat radio DJs host an open- air stage in the courtyard area across from the Harbour Arts Centre.

The event near the seafront is free to attend, and features kids entertainment, interviews, requests, music, competitions and more before fireworks bring the night to a close at 10.30pm.

In the Harbour Arts Centre, gig promoters Freckfest present one of Scotland’s top soul bands Counselled Out live in concert.

Doors are at 7pm, and the band will play three sets before the fireworks.

Tickets for that gig are available from the HAC box office and online.

The Puffers cafe at the Scottish Maritime Museum is open all day with live music from The Louise Mochan Trio playing jazz favourites from 2pm, before popular duo Mandulu and Hephzibah take over from 7pm.

These events are free, with food and snacks served all day.

More free events take place in the Coastwatch Activities Pavillion, next to the Harbour Tower, with children’s entertainment and coastal activities from 1pm on.

Live music starts at 3pm with Alloway Grove performing until 4pm, followed by Spirit of Slim Chance at 4.30pm – and the bands are back from 7pm, in reverse order.

The Harbour Lights pub, further along the harbourside, is open all day with food and drink from 2pm and live music from 7pm when Ashley Collins takes to the stage.

Karaoke fans are in for a treat at the Irvine Watersports Club with a night of singing kicking off at 7pm.

Trendy coffee shop Gro host live music from 3pm with Jemma- Kate McSheffrey and Ticket columnist Jamie ‘ Little Fire’ McGeechan, and again from 7pm with jazz group the Louise Mochan Trio.

Food, coffee and snacks are available all day.

The Scottish Maritime Museum is open all day with guided tours at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm as well as the summer Style At Sea exhibition.

Street entertainers – including pipers and buskers – will perform at fixed points over the course of the day all along the Harbourside.

Duncan’s Bar and Bistro will keep the entertainment going into the night with a DJ from 7pm and Jamie ‘ Little Fire’ McGeechan returning to the stage from 10pm until 1am.

One of Irvine’s most popular haunts, the Ship Inn, will be open all day with awardwinning food and drink available.

And it all comes to a close with a fantastic firework display from 21CC, launched from the old ICI Wharf next to the Big Idea centre from 10.30pm onwards.
