Benefits claims fall

The number of people claiming benefits has almost halved over the last five years.

Benefit bosses revealed that 1,615 people in South Ayrshire are claiming Job Seekers Allowance or looking for work while on Universal Credit - a drop of 45 per cent since June 2012.

The number of young people claiming benefit is 355, 60 per cent less than five years ago.
