Community council discuss who owns vacant land

-

Prestwick South Community Council discussed several items of interest at their June meeting: of the ownership and responsibilities pointing out that the Council are not the owners of the land in question.

The residents produced evidence to the effect that they do not own the land either. After extensive discussion between the residents, Community Councillors and South Ayrshire Councillors, the Chairman agreed to draft a letter to South Ayrshire Council which would be sent after the residents had agreed with its content.

The proposed Scottish Government Bill was discussed at length with varying opinions noted. It was agreed that members respond individually to the consultation document.

– While there was no Police attendance at the meeting, Cllr June Whittaker advised that she was aware of recent cases where handbags had been snatched from shoppers in local supermarkets.

All four SAC Councillors provided input to the meeting. The issues mentioned included the ongoing consultation on parking within Prestwick with residents’ views to be considered before any further changes.

Provost Helen Moonie reported significant input of finance would be required to provide new or refurbished schools and more teachers by the year 2020.

Cllr Hugh Hunt e r r e c o r d e d h i s disappointment at the Care & amp; Repair initiative having been closed down but was happy to report that finance to support local events such as galas has been re- instated.

The next meeting will be held in Kingcase Church Hall at 7pm on Thursday, August 31. As always, members of the public are warmly invited to attend and can be given the opportunity to raise any matters of concern affecting the Prestwick South area.
