Muirkirk On Saturday, July 15 the Annual Gala Day took place at East Ayrshire Car Track – unfortunat­ely the weather did not help but neverthele­ss everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy the Gala. The Gala was officially opened by the local priest who duly crowned Gala Queen Emma Hope.

The new school is expected to be ready for the start of the new session and it has lived up to everyone’s expectatio­n. The Community part of the building will be opened at the same time and if any group wishes a let contact the Community Associatio­n.

While it is good having a new modern school built it would also help if the Council made an attempt to tidy up various buildings which are turning into an eye sore and that includes the Masonic Hall, the property at the corner of the Main Street/ Glasgow Road and the former church hall at the Glasgow Road.

On a more positive side a new house is in the process of being built in Glasgow Road and a kebab shop is expected to be opened in the next few weeks. Troon Clyde Opera go Doon the Water when they perform at Portland Parish Church on Saturday July 22 at 7.30pm. A cast of singers will perform arias and duets from Rigoletto. Admission is £ 10 and this includes a glass of wine.

The Astronomer­s of the Future club meet in the Barassie Works Club in Shore Road on the last Thursday of the month. The next meeting is on Thursday, July 27 when the Speaker will be Prof. Alec MacKinnon, Glasgow University.

During July and August Portland Parish Church will have “open doors” on Thursday and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm.

The Open Day of Troon Lifeboat Station will take place on Saturday July 22 from 11am to 4pm.

Tennis for Troon OIR members continues throughout the summer at Troon Lawn Tennis Club every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. Courts are available from 9am to 11am with additional bounce games from 1.30pm on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. Contact Vince McBrearty on 738837 for more informatio­n. Dalmelling­ton 20 kids from 33rd Scout Group recently enjoyed a fun filled weekend of activities at Lochgoilhe­ad. Fundraisin­g by the group allowed us to subsidise this visit which we feel really develops our kids.
