Young Ben is the one to follow

-

I enjoyed watching several young apprentices in action at Ayr on Monday with three of them riding winners.

The youngster who stood out to me was Ben Robinson who has already ridden 18 winners this year and is a lad who is getting more and more mounts principally for Brian Ellison and John O’Shea.

He was as cool as a cucumber on board Be Kool in winning the seven furlong Polyflor Handicap for the aforementioned Ellison. I spoke with him afterwards and he certainly comes across as an intelligent and well- mannered 19- year- old with a good future.

Also on the scoresheet was Jim Goldie’s apprentice Sean Mooney, 21, who was successful on Sea of Green in the Wemyss Bay Holiday Park Handicap over six furlongs showing a great degree of coolness to bring his horse up the far side rails to win comfortably.

The third youngster to grace the winners’ enclosure was Seamus Cronin who won the apprentice handicap on Question Of Faith for Martin Todhunter. This 22- year- old was recording his first career win in his 19th race and looks as if he can go on to win many more races.

Not in action at Ayr on Monday but the best youngster I have seen this season is Rowan Scott who is apprenticed to Keith Dalgleish.
