beat Threave 3- 0 at Castle Douglas with Paul Cameron wrapping up the win. They host Darvel on Saturday.

will change their name to Ayr Whitletts Victoria Community Football Club.

The decision, approved at the AGM, was cited as promoting the fact that Whitletts is Ayr’s only Junior club.

The change is seen as promoting the town among Junior football fans throughout the country while retaining the club’s history and heritage.

The move will take effect from the start of the 2018/ 19 season which will be the 75th anniversary of the club which was formed in 1944.

Chairman John Dalton said: “Five years ago, Whitletts Victoria came to within a whisker of folding, with no ground, no money, no manager and only a handful of players who were prepared to play for nothing to keep the club alive.

“Since then there has been a solid growth both on and off the park. We are not just a Junior football club but a community football club.

“We are now the only team in Ayrshire to have an under- 21 side playing in the Glasgow- based West of Scotland league, where we will compete in the Premier League next season.

“Over the years, this level of the game has proven to be a strong breeding ground for Junior football attracting new talent, while during the summer we established our amateur team that this season will play in the Ayrshire league.

“Our development will also continue as we look to establish our own youth teams and other age levels to give local youngsters the chance to play the game and firmly establish our roots in the local community.

“However, to continue our growth we need to also widen our fan base and commercial opportunities and it was felt that this change would be a statement that we are Ayr’s Junior football club and represent the whole town while not forgetting our heritage.”

Whitletts beat Neilston 4- 0 away with goals from Raymond Buchanan ( 2), Jordan Boyd and Craig Harvey. On Saturday, they head to Newton Stewart.

beat Heston Rovers 7- 0, with doubles from Ayr United youngster Leon Murphy and Mark McKenzie. Others goals came from Jamie Martin, Ryan Connelly and Andy Stevenson.

In midweek, Bankies lost 5- 2 to Hurlford with Murphy ( penalty) and Connelly on target. They host Glenafton on Tuesday.
