Michael Smyth ( Royal Troon) leads the chase for the Doc Thom Salver and Ayrshire Order Of Merit title after 13 of the 21 counting events.

Adam Sweeney, of the host club, won the Stone Trophy competitio­n with a 68 at Largs Routenburn in its first year as a counting event.

In the Brunston Castle Open, local players were again to the fore, taking four of the seven counting places. Scott McIlwraith of the host club had the best return of the day with a 68 to take full points.

John Shanks ( Irvine) won the Gowf Cup for the first time at Loudoun, returning two rounds of 69 to win by two shots from three other players.
