Pat’s write on with her first thriller
An Ayr mum is excitedly awaiting the appearance of her first novel.
Retired teacher Pat Young only took up writing as a hobby six years ago.
Now she has achieved a long time ambition by writing a tense, psychological thriller ‘ Till the Dust Settles’ which will be published by Bloodhound Books on Thursday July 27.
Pat, 63, said: “To have a book published is a dream come true , and I am so looking forward to handing my mum a book with my name on it.”
Pat, who was born in Cumnock and brought up in Auchinleck, has been an enthusiastic member of Ayr Writers’ Club, winning competitions at local, regional and national levels.
The book is about a young woman who is given the opportunity to escape an abusive marriage and assume a new identity by her chance involvement in a terrorist act.
However, she quickly discovers that the future can be even more dangerous than the past, as her new identity carries unexpected and deadly risks.
Pat’s book will be launched at Waterstone’s Book Store, Ayr High Street on the evening of August 10, where she will be interviewed about her writing and her novel by well known Scottish author Caro Ramsey.
Pat, who is also known locally as an excellent ‘ reply to the lassies’ at Burns Suppers, is a keen tennis player.
She is an ex- Scottish female champion, but then was hit by a car while on her bike.
While she recovered physically from her injuries, she has never been able to face racing on a bike again.
