New festival expected to bring carnival feel
“The hale clamjamphrey were fittin’ it tae and heel wi’ unbounded delight,” wrote Scots poet Robert Buchanan in 1901, and that’s exactly what you can expect to experience at a brand new music and arts event to be held in Ayrshire next month.
The latest addition to the vibrant Scottish summer festival circuit, the Clamjamfry Festival is a oneday ‘ carnival of good times’ being held in the stunning grounds of Annick Lodge, near Irvine, on Saturday, August 12.
This family friendly event will have something for everyone, with three unique stages offering everything from reggae, funk and electronica to folk, jazz, Americana and much more.
Acts confirmed to play the inaugural event include Afro dub 5- piece Samson Sounds, Glasgow ska legends Esperanza, high energy Yellow Movement favourites Jamie and Shoony, Scottish hip hop act Jackal Trades, folk pop band Harry and the Hendersons, multi- layered electro outfit Machines in Heaven, folk punk rabble rousers The Stumblers and DJ/ producer Rebecca Vasmant.
And as well as a host of great acts there will be art instillations, Sunday morning yoga in the Geodome, live visuals and projections and a spoken word tent curated by Fail Better.
There will also be a fully licensed bar selling craft beers, ciders and cocktails, as well as gourmet food trucks and a communal campfire.
Adam Hughes of Watermelon Events CIC, organisers of the event, said: “The thinking behind The Clamjamfry is to create a small, affordable, family friendly event that truly offers something for everyone.
“The festival will be held at Annick Lodge in Irvine, surrounded by trees and encompassed by the river Annick. In the design of the festival site we felt it important to preserve the feeling of space, creating a camping trip with twist!
“Watermelon Events CIC is a small community interest company which strives to put community benefit before profits. In keeping with our ethos we will be offering heavily discounted children’s tickets and providing free stall space for community groups within the local area. Volunteers are also invited to work and learn at the festival.”
Tent passes are available for those wishing to stay on site, or you prefer a more glamorous camping experience, Red Kite Yurts will be providing luxury accommodation which can include beds and linen, lighting and even a stove and kettle.
Shuttle buses will also be running from Irvine railway station to the festival site at regular intervals throughout the day.
