Ayr soar thanks to Ross and Niall

-

Niall McCrossin hit 102 and Ross Mitchell an unbeaten 86 as Ayr’s Cambusdoon XI beat Shawholm.

The big stand helped them recover from the loss of three early wickets to finish on 255- 7.

Shawholm struggled at 30- 2 after two quick wickets by Lloyd Jefferson before rain suspended play until 7pm.

Shawholm’s innings was reduced to 20 overs and a revised target of 143 under the DLS system. Three quick wickets from Callum Henderson saw them finish on 86- 5.

The Development XI scored their first win in the Evening League, beating Hillhead at Hughenden.

Matt Crawshaw top scored with 37 in Ayr’s 125- 8 off 20 overs. They then restricted their hosts to 96- 8 with Callum Henderson taking 3- 11 and two wickets each for Pushkar Bhandari and George Pilley.

A young and inexperienced Development XI had a fine win against Weirs at Cambusdoon. Weirs were bowled for 127 with two wickets each for Lloyd Jefferson, Nari Bhandari, Harry Boyd and Callum McCormick.

Cambusdoon toiled at 40- 5 until an excellent stand between Matthew Baines and Pushkar Bhandari saw them win by four wickets, with Baines on 53 not out for his first senior half century.

On Saturday, Ayr entertain Greenock in the league ( sponsor Ted Murray) while on Wednesday they try again to host their McCulloch Cup semi- final against Ferguslie ( sponsor Clancy Consulting).

The Cambusdoon XI head to Langloan.
