Troon will put trust in youths

Jimmy Kirkwood says Troon will bank on youth as they try to bounce back from last season’s relegation from the Premier Division.

The gaffer, who begins his second stint in charge, has signed Jack Paterson and Lewis Clarke, both ex-Kilmarnock and Graeme Barbour from Arthurlie.

Troon host a fourteam tournament for the Portland Cup. They take on Kilmarnock U20s on Saturday at noon followed by Arthurlie v St Mirren U20s at 3pm.

The cup concludes the following day with the same kick- offs.

Paterson hit a double, while Barbour grabbed a debut equaliser in a 3- 3 draw away to Bathgate last weekend.

Kirkwood said: “Six starters against Bathgate were under 21 and it would have been more but for

injury. The youngsters will freshen us up.

“Jack is only with us until December, while Graeme, who played as a trialist, is the older brother of Ross Barbour.”

GLENAFTON head to Linlithgow on Saturday after a 4- 0 win over Rutherglen to lift the Joe Meldrum Trophy.

Ryan Borris, Cammy Marlow, Joe Andrew and Chris Dallas got the goals.

AUCHINLECK have resigned old favourite Sean McIlroy from Kingston City in Australia and will add Calvin Kemp once his reinstatem­ent from Stranraer is approved.
