Flower show set to bloom
Joy after 16 weeks of hard work
There’s just over a week to go until the new look Ayr & District Flower Show gets under way. show has been part of Ayr’s social and cultural heritage for many years and we were determined not to let that tradition die.
“Our aim has been to make this an affordable community event and while it won’t be as big as the old Flower Show, we are very proud of what we have put together and I’m sure visitors will be impressed with our fantastic horticultural content.”
Show organisers are working alongside rural college SRUC to promote horticulture careers.
Sharon Gooding- Hill of the college said: “There’s a skills shortage in the sector, with 73 per cent of businesses reporting they are unable to fill job vacancies, so career and employment prospects are good.
“That’s why we are teaming up with the Flower Show to get the message out there to anyone with an interest in plants and horticulture.”
The show will include features loved by visitors through the years including a Master Gardener competition, classes and activities.
Chairman Jim added: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the goodwill from local people and businesses and we hope people come out in force and show their support.
“Whether you’re the most greenfingered of gardeners, or have to make- do with a window- box, we will certainly have something for everyone.”
Tickets cost £ 5 for adults, and entry is free for accompanied children under 16. For more info visit www. ayranddistrictflowershow. co. uk.
