Talbot players facing the axe

I’ve too many to keep happy, says boss Sloan

-

Tommy Sloan says players will be heading out the door – because he has too many to keep happy.

The Beechwood men have kicked off the season with a squad of 22 and gaffer Sloan is getting ready to offload.

Sloan said: “I’m not going to carry that many so one or two will be moving. You can’t have too many sitting on the sidelines.”

Kyle Faulds scored the only goal as Talbot beat Cumnock 1- 0 but picked up an ankle injury that could sideline him for a couple of weeks.

That helped them bounce back from a 1- 0 home defeat by Glenafton who pounced with a 90th- minute Chris Dallas penalty.

Now wins against Lugar ( away) on Wednesday, Kello ( home) on Saturday and Muirkirk ( home) next Wednesday will book Talbot a place in the Ardagh Cup quarter- finals.

Sloan, who made nine changes from the Glens defeat, said: “We played better against Glens than against Cumnock who had more opportunites than us.

“However, we are rebuilding and are still looking for our best team.”

Sloan won’t be pursuing former Ayr and Clyde midfielder David Sinclair who had been on trial.

opened with a 3- 2 win over Kello who struck first through Ross Costello. But they blasted back through Sean McKenzie ( penalty), Ray Montgomerie and Adam Hunter. Boss John McKeown felt his team got a lesson in chance- taking against Talbot and claimed: “We had most of the ball but failed to finish.”

Cumnock now host Glenafton on Wednesday.

Glens followed their midweek win at Talbot by beating Muirkirk 3- 1 with a double from John Carter ( 2) and a goal from Iain McKnight.

are aiming high in section three after starting the season well.

Roddy Paterson hit a hat- trick but still finished a loser as they lost 5- 3 at Girvan in midweek.

Bankies bounced back to beat bigspending 4- 2 and now host on Saturday before visiting on Saturday. A Jamie Martin header and a goal from Stuart Granger had them 2- 0 in 11 minutes against Vics. Isaac Kerr pulled one back with a header at the break but veteran Andy Stevenson restored the two goal cushion with a curling effort.

Sub Callum Ogston reduced the deficit with a header but Aussie striker MacLean Simpson sealed it for Bankies. Whitletts opened with a 1- 1 against

Darren Baird’s goal being cancelled out by a Scott Dempster header.

New- look Craigmark continued their good start with a 2- 1 win over Maybole despite having Dan McColgan sent off. Dempster and Declan Dunlop got the goals.

One of four trialists scored for Maybole who have signed Lewis Gardner from Lugar and placed Dillon Dunn on the transfer list.
