Time to refuel at a new Christian Filling Station
A Christian craze that is sweeping the nation is on its way to Girvan.
The Filling Station takes the message of God outside church with monthly celebrations and brings different denominations together.
St Colmon Church members Gina Gathercole and great- grandparents Alan and Barbara Bretherton are involved in bringing it to the Carrick town, a first for South Ayrshire.
The Filling Station is an informal way of expressing faith through meetings in unusual venues.
Gina, 60, of Pinwherry, said: “It is open to all denominations and people who would not go to church but are searching for something. We hope it will encourage people in their faith.
“It is not about replacing any church. Churchgoers will hopefully be inspired when they go back to their normal service.
“It is also an opportunity for people living in rural places to have access to a speaker.”
Gina was impressed when she attended a Filling Station in Largs and decided to help introduce it locally. The debut event will take place on September 15 at the Woodland Bay Hotel at 7pm. The speaker will be Paul Davie of Alpha Scotland.
The meetings start with coffee and cakes followed by contemporary worship, a visiting speaker and time of prayer.
There are more than 80 Filling Stations across the UK and 11 in Scotland.
The scheme’s founder Richard Fothergill completed a prayer walk from John O’Groats to Lands End, praying for the nation. He was in Girvan as part of the trek on June 20.
