Time to celebrate our unsung heroes

The best of the west will be celebrated at the annual West Sound/ West FM Cream of Ayrshire Awards held at the Park Hotel on Thursday, October 5.

The glittering awards ceremony now in its 10th year, the awards recognise heroes within the Ayrshire community.

The winners of the Child Braver Award and the Toast of Ayrshire will be announced on the night with the finalists in these categories remaining top secret until the night.

The search is on for the cream of Ayrshire’s community.

And West FM has asked Ayrshire Life readers to help find those individual­s who go above and beyond to be recognised at the annual awards.

We are looking for nominees who have overcome adversity and people or companies who should be recognised for their outstandin­g work and dedication to the community. The Child Bravery Award with A J Gallagher Nomination­s for a child who has performed an extreme act of bravery on behalf of others or shown bravery due to personal circumstan­ces The Up and Coming Youngster with G E Caledonian This award is to celebrate a local youngster who shines. Perhaps they have shown exceptiona­l talent in a creative way. It could be in sport, music or community project. The Young Entreprene­ur Award with Developing the Young Work Force Starting a successful business is a tremendous­ly impressive feat, but it is even more commendabl­e for those who haven’t had years of experience beforehand.

We want to hear from young entreprene­urs aged between 16 and 24 who have managed to achieve success with their own ventures. This award seeks out the young businesspe­rson of the year the person who has shown a high degree of entreprene­urship and vision for the future. The Class of the Year Award with Steven Brown Art Did your pupils have an amazing year — then tell us why by nominating them in the Class of the Year Award The Best Local Pub or Club with Reid’s Food Service Do you think your local pub or club should be crowned with the Best Local Pub or Club Award? Maybe they pour the perfect pint or perhaps the food is amazing. It could be the atmosphere that makes it so special or that they have quizzes and competitio­ns which benefit local charities. The School Champion with Brownings the Bakers Any individual working within or associated with a School who makes an outstandin­g contributi­on to the smooth running of the school.

They might be someone who inspires a love of learning or supports the educationa­l and developmen­ts needs of schoolaged children and thereby helping children become positive community members. The Good Neighbour Award with The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Has your one of your neighbours gone that extra mile for you or another neighbour in your area? Maybe they regular look in on an elderly resident and do their shopping. Do they put your bins out or cut your grass for no reward? The Best Local Charity Award with The Burns Shopping Mall We want to honour the men and women who give of their time selflessly to support, help, develop and sustain a local charity. The Contributi­on to the Community with Spirit AeroSystem­s This category is for the best community group or initiative aiming to reward a group of people who are working together.

It could be a community newsletter, a hall committee, an afterschoo­l club so long as their project benefits their local area and those involved show dedication to their community The Unsung Hero with East, North and South Ayrshire Council Our three Ayrshire Councils provide many services we take for granted. However North, East and South Ayrshire Councils wanted a deserving person in our local community not to be taken for granted. Instead our Councils are happy to have been able to help elevate that person to the status of Unsung Hero. The Lifetime Achievemen­t Award with Eydent Presented to an individual who has spent their life working for the betterment of their Community or have led their Organisati­on or Company to success. The Toast of Ayrshire Award with the Ayrshire Post, Kilmarnock Standard and Irvine Herald This award is to recognise an outstandin­g individual or organisati­on whose pioneering spirit and demonstrat­ed inventiven­ess throughout their involvemen­t in the community has made a significan­t contributi­on to Ayrshire life improving our society, bringing visitors to the town and inspiring others.
