Sammy’s in for title treble joy
Sammy ‘ The Bull’ Hill led an Ayrshire joy night at Ayr’s biggest boxing event for years.
Sammy topped the bill at the Masters of Ayr in the Town Hall on Saturday night.
And the 31- year- old WBF British welterweight champion from Symington had the crowd on its feet as he beat Michael Kelly from Ireland for the PBC Celtic title.
Sammy won convincingly on points after eight rounds but admitted he had to battle for victory.
He said: “Michael is an experienced guy who has won titles in Ireland and challenged Craig Docherty and Lee McAllister for world titles. He has good ring craft and does a lot of clever things that only experienced fighters can do.
“It was the first time I have fought in Ayr and it was a great night with a lot of singing and dancing. I hope it’s the start of regular boxing nights in Ayr.
“Now I’m hoping to fight for an international title in November and then go on for a PBC Commonwealth title.”
Also tasting success were George McIlroy and Sandy Robb. George, from Stevenston, stopped Will Cairns from England in the fourth round for the light middleweight masters title.
Sandy, from Mossblown, stopped his Irish opponent in the first round to defend the British Masters cruiserweight crown.
Leon Roberts ( Kilmarnock) won on points in only his second pro fight while Nathan Beattie from Aberdeen was also a points winner. YOUTH FOOTBALL
