Let’s gamble on Ayr casino

My sure bet to get us rolling

-

resort in the UK – never mind Ayrshire.

We wouldn’t really want it anyway, would we?

But if I had a magic wand – I’d open the Ayr Station Casino tomorrow.

If we are serious about being a tourism hub . . . let’s stack a few odds in our favour.

Like it or not – and as dangerous as it might be in the wrong hands – gambling is rife. Ayr High Street now has more bookmakers than pubs.

And even IN those pubs, punters can lift their phones, place a bet, watch a race and see the returns go into their accounts . . . in the space of a few gulps of lager.

On- line gambling is already in the winners’ enclosure . . . our local government’s attitude to gambling hasn’t even got the saddle on!

We have an SNP controlled council in an SNP controlled country, but changing Scotland’s archaic gambling laws – for the benefit of Scotland - still looks like a million to one shot!

And why should the likes of Glasgow have a full house of casinos . . . while we have none?

South Ayrshire has already been dealt a good hand – seaside resorts, world class golf

courses, one of the best racecourses in Britain and an airport to service them, on its doorstep.

History? We had Robert Burns when Las Vegas was still a sand dune.

I reckon a sign hanging from Ayr Station Hotel saying “For Sale – With Casino Consent

Approved” – would see a queue of interested buyers.

In fact, I’m willing to bet on it.
