Half way there for African trip

-

An Ayr couple are hoping to raise funds to send a 20ft container to Africa containing goods such as clothes, toys and books, writes Charlene Bennie.

Yvonne McCrellis, a nurse at Ayrshire Hospice, will begin the mission to Swaziland in October alongside her husband Dane and members of the Bridge Church in Kincaidston.

The goods will help orphans with HIV.

The pair are asking for donations to their cause and are aiming to raise £ 3,000.

They have already raised £ 1500 by hosting a number of events including a fancy dress sponsored walk, a bag packing event and a charity fundraiser.

They are continuing their bid by holding a bingo night and Italian themed night that will feature a raffle and auction.

The container will be shipped to Mozambique then shifted to Swaziland.

Yvonne and Dane will be on the journey to the orphanage.

The McCrellis’ will be joined by Michael, Libby and Louis Shekleton.

Mr McCrellis, a janitor at Queen Margaret Academy, will contribute to the cause by building and painting, whereas Mrs McCrellis will use her nursing skills to teach children basic first aid, dental and hand hygiene.

Yvonne said: “The support we have had so far has been amazing.”
