BB work with poor

-

A Boys’ Brigade regiment from Ayr are back from a poor Romanian village.

The 17th Ayr BB visited the village of Târgu Mure to support the Rhema Foundation.

The BB helped entertain children every day and even helped feed up to 130 of the under- priveleged kids in the area.

One of the boys who visited, Gavin Drysdale, said: “During my time in Romania I really realised that you can find happiness from the simplest of things and I think the happiness of the children and the residents is evidence of this.

“They don’t have half the opportunities we have in the UK but they appreciate the simple things much more than we do.

“The sheer joy of the children painting for the first time is a perfect example.”

Rhema Foundation was founded in 1996 to provide residential care for some of the victims of Nicolae Ceausescu’s regime.

Between 1974 and 1989 Ceaușescu served as Romania’s first president.

After the revolution in 1989 he was convicted of multiple charges and executed.

During his leadership he showed a strong prejudice against the Gypsy community.

Many families abandoned their newborn babies as they attempted to seek asylum.

These neglected children and spent years in industrial orphanages.
