It’s a fond farewell for Troon’s old- timers
Honours at hotel bash
L o n g - s e r v i n g lifeboat volunteers have been wished a fond farewell after decades of service.
Four key staffers at Troon’s lifeboat station were honoured at an evening at the town’s South Beach Hotel last week.
Coxswain Joe Millar hosted the evening, with the dedicated men receiving a certificate from RNLI chief Paul Bossier for their years of service.
Former Chairman of the station management group Graham McKerrigan was first up after retiring earlier this year.
G r a h a m f i r s t volunteered with the station in 1990 as a Deputy Launching Authority before becoming vice chairman in 1996 and chairman in 2002.
William Cuthbertson - who served in the role of Deputy Launching Authority - was next to receive recognition after 28 years of service.
He joined the station in 1989, and over the years William - or Billy, as he was known to the crew - regularly deputised for the Lifeboat Operations Manager, authorising the launch of the station’s lifeboats when the call came from the Coastguard.
Bob Johnson was presented with a certificate in his absence after retiring as Lifeboat Operations Manager earlier this year, a position he had volunteered in since 2002.
And Tom Brown, who retired this year from his position as Box Secretary, was given a retirement gift by Joe Millar.
Tom held many roles within the lifeboat station over a number of decades including crew member, Deputy Launching Authority and honorary seretary as well as latterly being responsible for lifeboat collection boxes throughout Troon.
Ev e r yone at the station thanked them for everything they had done over the years, and wished them well in their retirement from the RNLI.
