Sound of strings Young German musicians Cellikates­sen will perform at St Columba Church in Ayr on Thursday.

The ensemble comprises 14 cellos and a double bass under the direction of Roman Guggenberg­er.

The musicians, aged between 16 and 22, are from southern Germany and are touring Britain.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and admission costs £ 5. Bible classes Bible classes continue at the Ambassador Indoor Bowling Club in Prestwick at 7.30pm tonight ( Wednesday). Weekend cuppa treat Troon Old Parish Church will host the Saturday cafe from 10am to noon. There will be tea, coffee and home baking. Quiet time Silence is golden at Holy Trinity Church in Ayr. People can spend up to an hour in the church for silent prayer on the evening of September 10. Mary’s prayer A van from Mary’s Meals will visit St Margaret’s and St Paul’s Catholic churches in Ayr on Sunday to collect unwanted clothes.

The collection will help fund their work of providing food for children in povertystr­icken countries. Fatima anniversar­y A replica of the Lady of Fatima statue will visit Ayr’s St Margaret’s on Saturday, September 23. The statue will be with the diocese for two weeks.

It is part of a celebratio­n to mark the 100th anniversar­y of the apparition­s at Fatima. Three shepherd children reported seeing the Blessed Virgin Mary in Portugal during 1917. The pilgrimage statue will be displayed in cathedrals thoughout Scotland.
