A Supper night out at the theatre
University boffins say that fishermen and seafarers have the most dangerous job in Britain.
And a popular performance at Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre will put that to the test when The Price Of A Fish Supper returns on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7.
Producer Ken O’Hara, who plays the lead part of Rab, said: “The evening performances of September 6 and 7 are sold out and we are delighted that the Gaiety has granted us a matinee performance for the Thursday at 2pm.
A previous production of the story went down a storm at the popular Oran Mor theatre in Glasgow, the Edinburgh Fringe and on Radio 4.
And retired depute head teacher Ken has been busy learning the challenging monologue which lasts for more than an hour.
He said: “It is quite an emotional journey both learning and playing the part.
“It is a wonderfully- written piece of drama which has humour, tragedy and a glimmer of hope as Rab tells of his childhood and family, his adventures on the sea and his personal philosophy on the demise of the industry which has played such a central role in his life.”
The play is directed by Isi Nimmo, and there will be a Q& A session with the writer, actor and director after each performance.
Tickets are expected to go quickly for the matinee show on Thrusday, September 7 - call the Gaiety box office on 01292 288235 or visit ayrgaiety. co. uk to book.
