Oscar winner Moonlight opens new film season
After a sell- out success in its debut outing, Pylon returns to the Palace Theatre this month.
The show, which earned rave reviews in its first run, will hit the stage again on Saturday, September 9.
Based on real events in Shortlees in the mid 90s, when concerns about the health impact of electricity pylons were at the forefront of the community’s mind, the show is a live music and theatre spectacular.
Put together by friends and musicians Graeme Cameron, Paul Montgomery, Paul Mulligan and Steven Smith, Pylon focuses on David McFarlane, whose life changes forever in 1994.
Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets costing £ 17.50 are available from eastayrshireleisure. com or the Palace Theatre box office on 01563 554900. Ayr’s award- winning Film Society are back with a packed programme for the new season.
The team gained a certificate of distinction for their programming at last year’s Film Society of the Year Awards and are aiming to bring more of the best of world cinema to the town.
Their programme boasts films not usually seen on the local commercial circuit, and are screened at Ayr Town Hall on a Thursday evening from September until March.
Oscar- winning film Moonlight starts the season on Thursday, September 14 before this season’s world tour visits Colombia for Embrace of the Serpent, Japan for Our Little Sister, Chile for Neruda, Sweden for We Are The Best, Spain for Julieta and El Olivo as well as Germany, France, Australia and the UK.
Organisers are also embracing Tamfest this season with two entirely different zombie movies - Shaun of the Dead on Friday, October 27 and Train to Busan on Saturday, October 28.
After the success of last year, Ayr Film Society will again be participating in the touring Fokus- Films from Germany Festival in association with Glasgow’s Goethe Institute and Filmhouse in Edinburgh on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.
Film fans can grab a bargain with the chance to attend 29 screenings for £ 60, or £ 30 for students and those under the age of 25. Individual tickets can be purchased at £ 5 or £ 2 for students/ under 25s per screening.
And things will kick off early this year with a special collaboration with the Organist Entertains series on Thursday, September 7 as they show Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie with the exceptional talents of Gordon Cree on the famous Town Hall Lewis organ. Tickets for this performance cost £ 5, payable on the door.
