Vntage vet ( 60+) Alastair Stewart beat many athletes half his age to finish fourth and third male overall, and, not to be outdone, his daughter Mandy was second female in under an hour.

There were two other members in the over 60 age group in the top 15. Grant Young was 13th in 61 minutes with fellow vintage vet and club president John Strawhorn just a few steps behind.

Other club placings: Alan Hiddleston 6th, Darren Nicol 11th, Chris Figgins 18th, Colin Davidson 29th and Alice Vernon 30th in her first triathlon.

Earlier, several members took to the chilly waters of Loch Lomond for the Great Scottish Swim.

Abbie Middleton completed the half mile event in the unusually calm and glassy water, in 17 minutes.

In the two mile event, Fiona O’Dowd took 58 minutes while Lucy Mullan took 72 minutes. Trina Mulherran also completed the distance.

In the 5 km, Lindsay Foster was third in his age group in 81 minutes. Tracey Middleton, Abbie’s mum, took 85 minutes whiled Steve White took 95 minutes for the same distance.

Stewart Bailey completed the 10 kms race in 2 hours and 27 minutes, placing him 16th overall.

Meanwhile, the club’s latest Barassie Sea Swim saw around 50 take the plunge. The final funded swim will be on Thursday 31st at 7pm, but if sufficient demand, the club will run some further sessions on its own.

In the Inverclyde Sprint Triathlon, Davie Auchie was third overall to beat son Marc by two places. Lorna Todd was second female and first vet female.

Derek Cambers finished in 46.05 and Alan Hiddleston in 46.52 in the Jim Young Marymass 10 k in Irvine.
