Hard- hearted rustlers have struck at one of South Ayrshire’s top attractions.

Thieves made off with four life- sized ceramic sheep from the front entrance to Heads of Ayr farm park.

Now park bosses have launched a desperate search for the much- loved animal statues.

The models were pinched on the night of Friday, September 22, and while some footage has been recovered through CCTV, staff are looking to the public to track down their flock.

Director Greg Rankin said: “It happened in the middle of the night. There were people on the premises but because they were right at the entranceway they didn’t come close enough into the park to be seen.

“Our CCTV did catch a vehicle that had no authority to be there. It was a Ford Focus, and we got a partial plate that the police are working on.

“The police have been investigating for a few weeks now. Although they’re doing a great job they are very busy so when we contacted them they said get it out to the public. “It’s all gained momentum from there.” The car caught on CCTV is believed to be a silver Ford Focus, although black and white CCTV images prevent police and park owners from providing definitive answers on the motor.

A social media plea by Heads of Ayr has been shared by hundreds of people online – but despite the wide reach, the model sheep are still missing.

Mr Rankin added: “The sheep have been there for a couple of years and they’ve become a bit of a favourite.

“The kids love getting photographs with them. They were a donation from a couple who were friendly with the owners of the park and they decided to donate them so everyone could enjoy them.”

Anyone with information on the missing sheep should call Heads of Ayr on 01292 441210, or phone Ayr Police Station on 101.
