South Ayrshire Ramblers will catch the ferry from Largs to the Isle of Cumbrae on Saturday for a 10- mile circular walk.

The route will be either clockwise or anticlockwise depending on wind direction. The walk includes a visit to Millport, and offers coastal views of the Isles of Arran and Bute.

Contact Stewart MacMillan on 01292 312078. To join the walk, meet at Prestwick Town railway station car park for an 8.50am departure. Those wishing to go direct to Largs should contact Stewart in advance.

On Sunday, Ayr and District Rambling Club head to the Scaur Hills south- west of Sanquhar for a nine- mile medium- grade circular walk starting near Glenwhargen.

The route climbs gradually from Glenmanna farm on a grassy track to Peat Craig and Peat Hill. After a short distance, it heads downhill in a northerly direction to join the minor road that goes along the Scar Water towards Polgown.

After crossing a bridge, the route follows the Southern Upland Way east to Cloud Hill before heading over Welltrees Tappin and Glenwhargen Craig back to the start. The terrain includes grassy tracks with a few sections of rougher ground. The walk offers views of Scaur Valley and surrounding hills.

Contact Lorna Cullen on 01292 440274. To join the walk, meet at Mill Brae car park in Ayr at 8.50am.
