He faced ‘ danger’ charge

The driver killed in a double fatal road smash in Ayr had been banned for dangerous driving. Sources say drugs were discovered in the car driven by banned Ian Clark on the night of the death crash.

His 22- year- old back- seat passenger Shannan Rafferty also died after the car they were travelling in ploughed into a tree.

His 22- year- old back seat passenger Shannan Rafferty also died after the car they were travelling in ploughed into a tree.

The 30- year- old drove the uninsured Toyota Corolla off the road, glancing a tree and into a field.

Two 16- year- old boys and a man of 34 who were in the car were hurt and taken to hospital.

It happened on the High Maybole Road near Alloway, under seven miles from the scene of Ian’s earlier dangerous driving.

He appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on September 11 and admitted dangerous driving in a smash in which a woman was injured. He was banned for 18 months and fined £ 400.

Ian, known as “Skinny”, of Piedmont Road, Girvan, overtook in his Peugeot 106GTi when unsafe and caused two other drivers to take evasive action to try and avoid a collision.

He spun into a van and the Fiat 500 of Rebecca Mckissock.

Rebecca was hurt and both vehicles damaged.

Last week we told of the horror on the B7024 High Maybole road near Alloway on October 20.

It took the life of Shannan Rafferty, also of Piedmont Road.

Both the 16- year- olds were seriously hurt and one was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow.

A source said: “The Toyota has been taken away for examination.

“It was originally blue but had a white colour wrap over it. Class B drugs were found inside it.

“There is a lot of anger he had taken to the roads while banned. There is also a lot of sadness at the loss of Shannan’s life, it should never have happened.”

And another added: “He drove far too fast down my road and I had been on the verge of calling police on Skinny.

“He seemed to love to drive about in higher performance cars.”

When approached on Tuesday at their home, Shannon’s family were too upset to comment about the road ban.

Ayr Police were not able to confirm drugs had been found in the wreckage, but a spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”
