A bigot has been fined £ 750 for belting out a sectarian song in Ayr town centre.

Robert Mcnally, sang the offensive tune Billy Boys in the early hours of September 28 in Carrick Street.

The loyalist tune contains the line: “We’re up to our knees in Fenian blood.”

Depute fiscal Andrew Lazarin told Ayr Sheriff Court last week police saw Mcnally singing the song at the “top of his voice” at 1.50am.

He was also heard randomly shouting Fenian b****** s.

Mr Lazarin said: “This behaviour didn’t seem to be aimed at anyone in particular.

“A group walking nearby told him you are embarassing yourself.” He was taken into custody. Appearing in the court dock, Mcnally admitted shouting, swearing and repeatedly uttering offensive sectarian remarks.

Mcnally, of James Street, Ayr flits between the town and Paisley.

The court heard he had too much to drink during a night out.

Previous to that he had not been socialising or drinking alcohol for months, the court was told.

He was the victim of a serious assault and had been suffering from PTSD.

Sheriff John Montgomery ordered him: “Stay off the drink.” Mcnally who works full time replied he didn’t drink much and the night in question was an exception.

The Sheriff went on to say: “Your swally that night is going to cost you £ 750.
