How can this be in the public interest?
Sentence was no justice for killer Ian
man who faced a personal hell only he can truly comprehend.
Is living the rest of his without Patricia – the wife his daughter says “was his entire world” – not punishment enough?
If a custodial sentence really WAS necessary, a term of ninety days would have been meaningful . . . and merciful.
In real terms, Ian Gordon would serve 60 days – time for him to receive counselling and support . . . and reflect on his actions, their consequences and the difficult future ahead of him.
He’d have been released by Christmas, into the bosom of his family – and the heart of a community where he is liked and respected.
The re- building of a shattered life could have begun.
Instead, he’ll spend his first Christmas under lock and key. And . . . it won’t be his last either.
Ian Gordon’s story is a personal tragedy.
How can it be in the “public interest” to make it even worse?
